1 LABORATORY SAFETY GUIDELINES 1. Wear safety goggles at all time. 2. Wear closed-toed shoes, not sandals 3. Tie back long hair to prevent it from coming in contact with chemicals or flames

2 4. Report any injury to your laboratory instructor immediately 5. Do not eat or drink in the laboratory 6. Maintain a clean and orderly workspace. Clean up spills at once or ask for assistance in doing so

3 7. Do not perform unauthorized experiments 8. Do not taste any chemicals or directly breath any chemical vapor 9. Check all chemical labels for both name and concentration

4 10. Do not grasp recently heated glassware, clamps, or ring stands because they remain hot for quite a while 11. Discard all excess reagents or products in the proper waste containers 12. If your skin comes in contact with a chemical, rinse under cold water for at least 15 minutes

5 13. Do not work with flammable solvents near an open flame 14. Assume any chemical is hazardous if you are unsure.
