STREAM INVERTEBRATES- STREAM INVERTEBRATES- AMOUNT & TYPES OF INVERTEBRATES CAN INDICATE HEALTH Certain species tolerate high levels of pollution &are indicators of POOR water quality EX: Tubifex worms & Midgefly larvae EX: Tubifex worms & Midgefly larvae Other species require high oxygen level and are indicators of GOOD water quality Ex: Stonefly and Dragonfly nymph Ex: Stonefly and Dragonfly nymph

SALMONIDS- SALMONIDS- HEALTH AND QUANTITY OF SMALL FISH INDICATES CLEANLINESS OF WATER Waterways that can support fish populations = healthy Salmon require: at least 6 parts per million of dissolved Oxygen in the water Low turbidity (low silt/debris) Cool temperatures (3-15 degrees) pH close to neutral
