5 Happy New Year 2012!. WASHINGTON SUPREME COURT RULES STATE MUST FULLY FUND EDUCATION BY 2018  On 1/5/2012, “… in an unanimous ruling, the Washington Supreme Court upheld a trial court ruling that the Washington Constitution requires the legislature to provide [ample] funding for the education of all children and that the state has failed to fulfill that duty.  In an unusual move, the Supreme Court retained jurisdiction over the case to enable it to make sure the Legislature does what it said it would do when enacting HB 2261.  “This is a clear win, and starting today we have a new conversation,” says Novella Fraser, Washington State PTA President. “We’re not going to talk about more cuts to school kids. We’re going to figure out how to pay for an instructional program that prepares all of our children for college and career...” ( Leadership News -- Information for Washington State PTA Leaders sent in Email on 1/6/2012 )
