2 The social well-being includes the next components: - the degree of people's protection from dangers, - the degree of people's satisfaction with their life in whole, - the degree of social optimism.

3 THE PUBLIC INQUIRY 2007 – 40 populated localities; The sample's volume – 1128 people; 2009 – 51 populated localities; The sample's volume – 1000 people. The public inquiry was conducted in the form of one-hour interviews (62 questions) in the confidential and domiciliary atmosphere.

10 CONCLUSIONS The population of Kursk region has quite adapted to the happening social and economic changes and nowadays it relies more on itself and its potential, showing moderate optimism in estimating its prospects.
