1911 – JROTC, brainchild of Army inspector Lt. Edgar R. Stevens
1916 – signing of the National Defense Act of 1916
1917 – first JROTC, Leavenworth High School in Kansas
1964 – JROTC Vitalization Act of 1964, allowed other service branches to offer JROTC
1966 – first NJROTC, 620 programs
