Determining the energy for a rolling ball Critical question: What is the relationship between potential and kinetic energy?

Procedure 1)Measure the mass of the ball and record 2)Place a strip of masking tape across the board close to one end, and measure the distance from the tape to the opposite end of the board. Record this distance as “length of ramp” 3)Stack books approximately 30cm high to make a ramp

4) Measure the vertical height of the ramp at the tape and record this value as “height of ramp” 5)Place the ball on the ramp at the tape. Release the ball, and measure how long it takes the ball to travel to the bottom of the ramp. Record the time. 6)Repeat step 5 two more times and record results. 7) Repeat with a stack of books 45cm high 8) Repeat with a stack of books 60cm high.

Data Data table on hand out should be copied into lab report Make a computer pie chart that shows the amounts of potential, kinetic energy, and energy lost due to friction, of the ball in the experiment. Use the following To determine these values.

Graph the data in the following table in your pie chart. (Graph the percent column) To find the percent of total divide the amount in joules by the total energy x 100. Kinetic energy Joules Percent of total Potential energy joules Energy lost (Potential- Kinetic) Total energy

Analysis Copy analysis and conclusion questions from hand out into lab report

Conclusion:
