14 Neutrino Scattering in the NuMI Beam  Tot, F i (x,Q 2 ),Duality and Nuclear Effects  Experiment: (only) on nuclear targets:  d  /dxdQ off, mainly, carbon t Could say F 2 = xF 3 at high x, but … t Concentrate on careful measurement of transition region  Low energy (< 10 GeV) primarily from the 70’s and 80’s suffering from low statistics and large systematics (mainly from flux measurements). t Mainly bubble chamber results --> larger correction for missing neutrals. 17 Neutrino Scattering in the NuMI Beam Nuclear Effects  Without can’t measure flavor dependence of nuclear effects  However, can make careful measurement of ratio of d  /dxdQ off C, Fe and Pb. Never measured before. Study shadowing and EMC effect with neutrinos!  Can measure dD(z)/dxdQ off C, Fe and Pb which would be a convolution of all nuclear effects including: boson (quark-flavor dependence) and transparency (final-state interactions / formation-length /color transparency)effects.  Behavior of F 2 as x --> 1.0 in Nuclear Environment  Few-nucleon-correlation and multi-quark models allow quarks to have higher momentum ---> high x tail with F 2  e - ax  CCFR: a = 8.3 ± 0.7 ± 0.7,  e: a = 16 ± 0.5

20 Neutrino Scattering in the NuMI Beam Physics Results: High-x Bj Parton Distribution Functions  The particular case of what is happening at high- x Bj is currently a bit of controversial with indications that current global results not correct:  Drell-Yan production results ( E-866) may indicate that high-x Bj (valence) quarks OVERESTIMATED.  A Jlab analysis of Jlab and SLAC high x DIS indicate high-x Bj quarks UNDERESTIMATED. ≈ Statistical Errors for 1 year of he- x Bj CHLH 2 LD 2.6 -.650.6%2.2%1.5%.65 -.70.72.61.7.7 -.751.03.72.5.75 -.81.353.8 -.85275.85 -.93117.9 - 1.041410 Measured / CTEQ6 CTEQ6 SLAC points Might be d/u ratio
