1 Reading

2 Why is reading important?
The benefits of reading are so significant that it would be foolish for us to ignore them. Statistics show: Developing a love of reading can be more important for a child’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic background (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). Young people who read in and outside class are 13 times more likely to read above the expected level for their age (National Literacy Trust). Children who read for pleasure are likely to be better at both maths and English than those who rarely read in their free time (London’s Institute of Education). Children increase their breadth of vocabulary, have a better understanding of other cultures, improve their general knowledge and have a greater ability to absorb information across all areas of the curriculum (London’s Institute of Education). How can we work together to best support our children and develop their love of reading?
