3. Today, we’re looking at Setting
We’re about to look at a historical photo from the northwest; we are looking at Seattle.
When it comes up, I’d like you to write down one thing that you think that nobody else in the room will see in that picture.
I’ll leave you to look at it for 1 minute, in silence, while you take it all in. Then I’d like to see what you’ve written down…. If you write something that no-one else does, there’s a prize.

One thing that authors do when they write pieces of descriptive writing is use the 5 senses:
Sight
Taste
Sound
What are they?
Touch
Smell

6. We’re going to explore how we can add these different senses to your creative writing, in order to improve your piece.

7. We’ll start by……… listening!
Look carefully at the picture, whilst we sit in silence.
I want you to imagine that there is a volume button on the picture that I am about to turn up.
Listen very carefully and when you think of sounds that you can hear, put your hand up.
I also need one volunteer to write the sounds down on the board
