2 Quick Questions Who has their own personal email account? Who checks their email regularly?  Once a week?  At least twice weekly?  Daily?

3 Email - Basics Email is a primary form of communication (for Take Stock, Universities, financial aid, etc.) Aim to have a simple, professional email address  Keep it consistent!! Importance of regularly checking email  You are often held accountable for what you are sent

4 Email: Skills to Know Reply vs. reply-all Cc-ing Subject line Email Signature Attaching files  Sending  Receiving  Types of files Email Folders  For organizing  Junk/Spam Contact list

5 Be sure to: Proofread! Sign your emails Be aware of what you include on your email profile Thoroughly read emails you’ve received

6 Social Media Reminders Social Media is no longer used only by your peers Be conscious of what you are posting, in regards to both yourself & other people Students & Parents - Take Stock in Children is now on Facebook, like us: TakeStockInChildrenPascoCounty Poll: Who uses twitter more than facebook?

7 References Purpose of a reference When and for what do you need a reference for? Importance of a good reference Remember to properly thank your reference(s)

8 How to get a good reference Ask early & put thought in to who you choose Consider:  Relationship with person – no peers or family members  Length of time you’ve known the person  Has this person seen you exhibit good character traits & skills?  What are you asking a reference for?  Aim to ask people from different areas of expertise
