LACS 2 Empowering Language Networks

LACS 2: Empowering Language Networks The project will mediate between ECML projects and language teacher associations and other networks at regional and national levels It will raise awareness of existing projects and seek to motivate people to adapt them to their local environment in order to facilitate widespread impact on learning and teaching.

Major outcomes Members of language teacher associations are more aware of the resources developed by the ECML. Language teacher associations use the guidance and case studies to establish more effective educational dissemination and improve practice in language teaching. Teachers and associations/organisations involved in different aspects of language education (foreign modern, heritage or majority languages) learn to collaborate in order to develop learners’ full linguistic potential.

Major outputs A Directory of associations and other language organisations; Multimedia communications strategy to promote ECML projects as a whole At least four regional events: operating in ways appropriate to the region; Case studies of activities in different countries/regions, to illustrate ways in which ECML projects are being used and having an impact; Guidance on how to adapt projects to different contexts; Continued encouragement of language associations and organisations to collaborate and share.

Guidance tool The purpose of the Guidance is to repackage information and enhance accessibility for new audiences. LACS will serve to show what can be learnt from the way different projects are adapted and implemented in different contexts and at different stages. The Guidance will consist of case studies, which identify how different projects have been implemented/adapted in different regions/countries. We are particularly interested in teachers’ ways of adapting/contextualising/integrating different project tools. Different aspects of the adaptation and implementation process will be illustrated via a range of media: – print publications – YouTube videos – Written and videoed testimonials – etc

Objectives of the Networking Meeting To share case studies of projects adapted for local needs To identify and analyse further case studies, mainly from your regions To refine and pilot a template to facilitate analysis, implementation and adaptation of ECML projects To find concrete exemplars to illustrate aspects of implementation and adaptation To consider and plan for future collaborations

15.00-15.30: Using the template; finding case studies: Introduction to research/analysis of regional examples of projects (to be started after break, in break out rooms) Find examples of projects/case studies (but also draw on your own project engagement) looking at ECML website - NCP/country/experts involved/reports or project websites themselves or any other case studies from google+ you haven’t looked at if relevant. Choose a project and use the reports and website (as well as your own experience) to explore the questions on the template. Continue to add to the issues that need to be considered under each one, finding relevant aspects of the projects and making a note of any useful artefact to illustrate these issues, e.g. a video clip, worksheet, powerpoint etc. Continue this process with other projects You will be sending the completed templates with as many examples as possible to us tomorrow when you have finished your research Who will work with whom? (potential partners for events)
