4 Course Description This interdisciplinary course focuses on the structural development of Iranian languages, especially Persian language, from Old Persian (551 BC) to Modern Persian (7 th century) with the emphasis on the word formation and grammar.

5 Course Requirements This is a reading intensive class. You should dedicate at least 4 hours a week for reading and learning the lecture’s materials. Students are required to attend in the class and participate in all discussions. Students are responsible for lecture quizzes, two tests and a presentation.

6 Warning You are not allowed to use cell phones, and pagers during classes. You are allowed to use computer ONLY for taking note of the class lecture.

7 Text Book There is NO text book for this course. All the materials will be prepared in power point slides by the instructor and will be uploaded on Blackboard.

8 Attendance Attendance is mandatory for all students. If you miss a lecture quiz, you can NOT make it up and you you will not receive that portion of the grade. Regular attendance is counted as a part of your effort, which may result in receiving the higher grade when grade is on the border line.

9 Office Hours and Use of Email Office hours is on Thursday, 12:00-1:00 at 4 Bancroft Avenue, R: 218. You are responsible for setting up and keeping an appointment. DO NOT expect to receive class instruction during office hours. E-mail is to be used for communicating urgent messages only, using appropriate forms of address and courtesy. Please note that you should always use your official utoronto.ca email address for communicating.

10 Missed Tests: Procedures & Rules Students who cannot write a test due to illness or other serious causes must inform the instructor by email within 48 hours of the missed Test. Late petitions will NOT be considered. If illness is cited as the reason for a deferred test request, a U of T Medical Certificate must show that you were examined and diagnosed at the time of illness and on the date of the test, or by the day after at the latest.
