1 Research Paper Outline You will need: Your notebook Sample Outline

2 Research Paper Purpose: You are presenting facts about this topic only. You are NOT making an argument! Common research questions to guide subheadings: Why is this an issue of injustice? What is being done to create equality in this area? What individuals/groups have made a difference? Where is this injustice felt the most?

3 Outline Your Research Introduction Subheading #1 - ___________________ 2 pieces of evidence Subheading #2 - ___________________ 2 pieces of evidence Subheading #3- Literary Connection 2 pieces of evidence Conclusion

4 Introduction Introduce the social justice topic: What is the topic? Why is this an issue of inequality? Thesis statement should support the subheadings. Introduction should be a minimum of 3 complete sentences. At least one of those sentences should be a complex or a compound sentence.

5 Body Paragraphs Subheading starts the paragraph in bold font Organization should look like: Topic Sentence- Introduces this subtopic as part of the larger issue Background- explains why this is a subtopic to the larger issue Evidence- paraphrased or directly quoted with an internal citation Commentary/Explanation- explain why this evidence relates to your subheading and to the topic of your social justice issue Transition- Sentence allows you to transition to the next idea in your research Evidence Commentary Explanation Transition- Close this subheading topic and relate this make to the issue

6 Conclusion Concludes the social justice topic: Re-state the thesis statement. Why is this an issue of inequality again? What final statistic or interesting fact will you leave us pondering? Conclusion should be a minimum of 3 complete sentences. At least one of those sentences should be a complex or a compound sentence.
