4 School Improvement Plan Four Goals: I. School Goal: To embed graduation standards across all content areas, and monitor student progress in all areas. II. School Goal: To embed consistent, effective, instructional practices that engage all students in critical learning. III. School Goal: We will develop and implement communication practices that build trust, improve relationships, and support students in their learning. IV. School Goal: To increase a sense of social, emotional, and physical safety and well-being within the school community.

5 Goal III: Communication Action Steps  Continue small-group meetings to explain new procedures at start of the year.  Clearly state communication expectations to all members of the school community (format, content, tone). Email NHS website and social media postings Sharing constructive critical feedback Timely communication about student attendance and academic progress  Issue weekly staff and community updates (email/Facebook/NHS website).  Establish NHS website/Facebook link for everyone to recognize teachers and students (HAWKS).  Review, refine, and publicize expectations for academic performance and student behavior (including attendance). Continue to use NHS website and social media to promote awareness of school programs such as FLEX, NICE  Use Google Forms to periodically solicit feedback on communication.

6 Goal IV: Safe School Culture Action Steps  Train all staff in mental health first aid (Wheeler Clinic)  Review the results of the school climate survey with staff and administrators  Use advisories to develop meaningful connections between students and adults; develop student advisory norms  Clarify school expectations with all students through assemblies, advisories, and other venues Develop Dean and hall duties for teachers to increase adult presence and monitoring of students Review policies focused on cruel and mean behavior (e.g., anti-bullying) Promote student involvement in school and extra-curricular activities that build community Embed lessons in the classroom that promote diversity, civic responsibility, and empathy Continue to review student perceptions of classroom, school culture and climate, both formally and informally
