3 Process of development of Concept Note for Technical Session 2 Communication sent to Chair countries by ADPC for guidance on planning the session Communication with Session partners on inputs on planning the session Zero Draft of Concept Note developed and shared with Chair countries and session partners Face to face discussion with Session Chairs and Partners at IAP meeting, August, 2010 Based on inputs received the Concept Note would be revised and submitted to Government of Korea

4 Objectives of Technical Session 2 1.Identify the most appropriate means of sharing information on climate and disaster risk management as a whole for the region. 2.Highlight the best and most transferable technologies and practices on climate and disaster risk management at national and regional level. 3.Highlight lessons learnt from good practices on climate and disaster risk management on involvement of communities, local government and civil society, private public partnerships, public education and awareness, safe schools and hospitals, etc. The recommendations generated in this session would feed in to the Incheon Declaration and corresponding Road Map and Action Plan.

5 Why these objectives? Broader disaster risk management approach needs to address climate related risk Broader DRM priorities have been identified by countries and as committed in Declarations adopted at previous AMCDRRs (1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd ) This session would build on from these priorities and specifically focus on aspects related information, technology and sharing sound practices on climate and disaster risk management

6 Some of the aspects which would be covered under Information, technology and sound practices on climate and disaster risk management To have systems which provides information on ‘who is doing what and where’ on climate and disaster risk management To have improved capacity on data collection, analysis, storage –broken down to cover sex, age, vulnerable populations etc Strengthening end to end early warning systems (technology, capacity, institutional mechanisms, public awareness) and in-country capacities to better predict changes due to extreme weather events Sharing good practices on community based practices on climate and disaster risk management Integrating climate and disaster risk management aspects in national educational systems Increasing access and use of appropriate technology

7 Proposed Session Plan Session overview and background – building on priorities identified in earlier AMCDRR and directing towards the outcomes of the 4 th AMCDRR Experience from specific country/ies on climate and disaster risk management Discussions on availability of information and technology and what is further required for climate and disaster risk management Good practices and lessons learned from various levels on climate and disaster risk management Summary and recommendation of session
