1 DISCIPLESHIP IN THE MARKETPLACE The marketplace is where life in its roughness is lived out. It is the place where people come together to do business, where some gain and others lose, some are hired and others are fired. It is often a cruel system in which some brag about it while others are oppressed. It can be a rat race in which the aggressive win and the gentle lose. The marketplace is the world of banks and bosses, media and mortgages, schools and shopping malls, taxes and trade agreements, police and policy makers, government and graffiti, violence and special interests, drugs and divorce, godliness and gossip, goodness and grief, just and unjust, or rich and poor. The marketplace has its own agenda, concerns, priorities, values and style of life.

2 DISCIPLESHIP IN THE MARKETPLACE Definition: To be a disciple is to follow Jesus in each moment, each situation, in every aspect of our life. As you will see, being a disciple is not always an easy thing to be.

3 DISCIPLESHIP Doing the work of a disciple means we are practicing discipleship. It means being there for others and bringing light to the dark areas of their life. It means making our presence felt in our society.

4 With a partner, read the following 2 Scripture passages: MATTHEW 9:35-38 MATTHEW 10:1-31 1.) Create a short two sentence summary of the passage. 2.) Summarize in point form, the expectations of a disciple (what does a disciple do?)
