7 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 7 7 PRE-APPRENTICESHIP Benefits of Pre-Apprenticeship Benefits to Students: Registered Department of Commerce Certificate for completion of the Pre- Apprenticeship Program Earned hours towards Johnston Community College credits at no cost Approximately 640 hours of on the job training Paid work experience while in High School Preferred opportunity for full-time employment at Caterpillar Benefit to Caterpillar: Pool of potential employees with approximately 640 hours of Caterpillar specific training Potential employees who are familiar and comfortable with the Caterpillar culture Potential employees who are prepared and qualified for full-time employment with Caterpillar Opportunity to engage with our community partners to develop our workforce – giving back to the community in which we live, work, and play

8 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 8 8 Program Details The Pre-Apprenticeship Program allows for development of career and technical competencies within the manufacturing career field. Pre-Apprenticeship allows students to observe and participate in daily operations, develop direct contact with job personnel, ask questions about particular careers, and perform certain job tasks. Students will receive training in the following area Caterpillar Production Systems Machine Operation Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC): Safety Human Resources Career Development Students will work part time at Caterpillar facilities in the role of product assembler Students paid $10.10 per hour Paid for time working and for Caterpillar training

10 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 10 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 10 Registered Program with the Department of Commerce The Department of Commerce’s Registered Pre-Apprenticeship programs provide a link between classroom skills training and the workplace. These programs help to prepare individuals with the skills required to enter apprenticeable occupations. Partnership with Johnston Community College NC's Career and College Promise (CCP) program at JCC is an educational opportunity for qualified North Carolina high school eleventh and twelfth grade students to get ahead of preparing for their career and/or the completion of college credits. Caterpillar Pre-Apprenticeship Program The Caterpillar Assembly Pre-Apprenticeship program is a year and a half program that prepares students for employment specifically at the Caterpillar plant located in Clayton, North Carolina and at other related industries. How does the program work?

12 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 12 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 12 Pre-Apprenticeship Program Requirements Eligibility Requirements : Must be 16 years of age Must be a High School Junior in good academic standing Must be participate in the Career & College Promise Program Must have 2 letters of recommendation (from teachers and/or school administration) Must have support of parents or legal guardian Must complete the application process Must participate in an interview Must be legally authorized to work in the US Must have transportation Candidates will be chosen based on the following criteria: Scholastic record Discipline profile Attendance profile Interview Skills Letters of Recommendation

15 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 15 Caterpillar: Confidential Green 15 Scheduling Classes – Smaller schools don’t necessarily have the resources to offer needed classes in a compressed time frame. Transportation – Getting and maintaining reliable transportation for students to make it to the college and work. Gender diversity within the program. Course selection that would support both Caterpillar’s business need and that are attractive to the student as transferrable to other schools and relate to Caterpillar career paths. Managing the logistics of the program – the manpower needed to create the program and keep it going should not be underestimated. Obstacles & Challenges
