2 Convention Timeline ◦ Adoption by the United Nations General Assembly - 13 Dec 2006 ◦ Opened for signature - 30 March 2007 ◦ Australia signs - July 2008 Purpose of Convention To promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity Background to the Convention
