Themes: revenge; hesitation; family conflict; power; responsibility By the end of the lesson you will have: Level 5 created a dark and gloomy mood of Act 1 scene 1 with voice and body sounds Level 6 used drama techniques to show the dark and gloomy atmosphere of Act 1 scene 1 Level 7 used drama techniques confidently to create a sinister and foreboding atmosphere in Act 1 scene 1 Performing Shakespeare 31/10/11

3 Watch the video clip and complete your grid Act 1, scene 1 – an open place. Thunder and lightning. Enter three witches. FIRST WITCH: When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? SECOND WITCH: When the hurly-burly’s done, When the battle’s lost and won. THIRD WITCH: That will be ere the set of sun. FIRST WITCH: Where the place? 4 Sound Circle: create a storm by using voice and body sounds (clapping, clicking and sshhhing) Click on the picture to listen to the sound

5 In groups of 4 create a soundscape to create the mood or atmosphere of the scene Try experimenting with other sounds, using furniture and other objects around the room. Over the sound of the storm you have created together, you need to add in the witches’ lines (see sheet). Perform your soundscape to the rest of the class.
