1 Introduction to Drama Section 4 – Use of Space

2 Learning Intentions By the end of this section you will:
Know what stage directions are. Know how to use the space to show character status. Know what you have to consider when making a freeze frame. Have worked in groups to create a series of freeze frames.

3 Stage Directions Any acting areas can be split into nine acting areas called STAGE DIRECTIONS.

5 Task In groups you will be given numbers and be asked to create a FREEZE FRAME using the numbers as a level of importance. (STATUS 1=most important) Think about your use of movement here and try to freeze completely. Think about where the person with the highest status will be and how you will show the status of the rest of the group. The rest of the class will evaluate your work and try to guess what number everyone is.

7 Freeze Frame When creating a freeze frame you have to think about the following: Use of Levels Use of Angles Masking Use of Space to suggest relationship or place. Facial Expression Body Language Use of Direction Positioning Balance

8 Task In groups create a freeze frame for each of the following titles:
At the beach In the play park Winning the cup

9 What have you learnt In the space provided in your workbooks you should write down what you have learnt today (you may use bullet points).
