4 What is Project LIFT? Public / Private Partnership Focus on 9 West Charlotte Corridor Schools 5 year goal: 90 – 90 – 90 – 90% graduation rate at West Charlotte High School – 90% proficient in Reading, Math, and Science – 90% of students showing growth

5 What is Title I? Federal funding program to assist high poverty schools Which schools receive funds? High percentage of low-income students – CMS: 75% or more

8 Our PROCESS will produce RESULTS Schoolwide Student Achievement Goals –Increase by at least 10 percentage points in reading, math, and science –Decrease the percentage of students who enter below grade level at the beginning of the year by half at the end of the year –Achieve high growth in reading and math.

9 Our PROCESS will produce RESULTS Student Culture Goal –Decrease the number of student incidents to less than 300 by the end of the 2014-15 school year Positive Action Curriculum/ Character Education 8:00 am – 8:30 am 1 st 10 days of school: IB Profile Lessons (can be found on P: Drive)

13 New Testing Standards Shift From North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) – Emphasis on 21 st Century Skills (Collaboration, Problem Solving, Reasoning, etc.) – Emphasis on College Readiness – More rigorous – Developmentally Appropriate End of Grade Tests are now based on CCSS (potential decrease in proficiency rates across the board)

14 Strategies to Address Learning Balanced Literacy (word work, guided reading, writing, independent reading) Lots of Independent Reading with individual and small group attention from teachers, support staff, and teacher assistants Integrated units with an emphasis on comprehension Read at home daily (at least 30 minutes)

15 Strategies to Address Learning Use of Math Investigations as a teaching resource Daily “Intervention Block” for targeted instruction in literacy and math Emphasize writing across the curriculum

16 Parent Involvement Policy Required of all Title I Schools / Districts Included in First Day Packets – District Parental Involvement Policy – School Parental Involvement Policy – Family / School Compact (sign and return) Become Involved – School Leadership Team – PTA – Attend Quarterly Parent / Teacher / Student Conferences (required each quarter)
