3 Important Tips… When completing word problems, it is important to write NEATLY! It is important to use your strategy to determine the proper OPERATION or OPERATIONS! Sometimes you may need to do more than ONE problem! (GASP!) Check to see that you used all of the information in the problem by crossing it out!

4 There are 136 fifth grade students at West Chatham Elementary. Each student uses 46 pencils per year. How many pencils do the fifth graders use in one year?

5 Cherrina wins the Georgia Lottery! She is going shopping for new shoes. She sees the Jordans she wants for $149. She tells the Foot Locker employee, “Wrap ‘em up! I want 65 pairs!” How much money will Cherrina spend out of her lottery money for her new shoes?

6 Coach Michael is purchasing soccer balls for the season for his new job as soccer coach of the US team. He finds a company that sells soccer balls for $24 each. If Coach Michael needs 382 soccer balls, how much money will he spend?

7 The ice cream truck comes to West Chatham 5 days a week. It drives 22 miles each trip. How many miles will the truck drive in 36 weeks?

8 The cost for two weeks of vacation on Hallman’s Paradise Island is $1345. How much does it cost for just one day? Hallman’s Paradise Island

9 Charlie is helping Mrs. Hallman organize her candy bags. Mrs. Hallman has 63 bags. In each bag she has 599 pieces of candy. How many pieces does she have?

10 Mark is planting tomato plants in his garden. He has 9,750 tomato plants. Mark makes 78 rows. He wants an equal amount of plants in each row. How many plants should he place in each row?

11 James has 5152 sports cards. He wants to put the cards into 56 containers. How many cards will he put in each container?

12 Mrs. Hallman started her seashell collection this summer. She goes to the beach 5 days a week and collects 15 shells per day. If she does this for 56 weeks, how many seashells will she collect?

13 The stadium has 157 rows of seats. In each row, there are 98 seats. In the stadium, there are 8 sections. How many people can sit in the stadium?

14 There are 8 slices in a pizza. The fifth grade eats 78 pizzas per week. How many pizza slices will they eat in 36 weeks?

15 The class goes to a fancy dinner and they are splitting the dinner bill. After tip, the total is $6538. How much does each owe if they split the bill?
