College/University Scholarships Presented by The Guidance Department October 7, 2015

Scholarships These are non-repayable awards given to recognize the high level of excellence a student has achieved in his/her studies. Scholarships can be based on: ◦Outstanding Marks ◦Community Involvement ◦Athletic Ability ◦Specific Criteria  Eg. parents who work for a company

What Kinds of Scholarships Are There? Entrance scholarships -one-time $ amount awarded to a student prior to first year entry -offered as a reward for academic excellence and to entice the student to accept the University’s offer of admission -range from hundreds to several thousand dollars Renewable scholarships -monetary awards spread out over a student’s undergraduate career (e.g., $10, 000 renewable scholarships provide students with $2,500 a year for four years) -conditional on specific criteria, such as the maintenance of a certain average.

Applying for Scholarships Universities may also offer scholarships that require a separate application and have specific criteria attached to them. SO HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED TO SUBMIT A SEPARATE APPLICATION OR NOT??electronicinfo.ca

Scholarships: Who Gets Them? Students entering their first year at a particular College or University are eligible. Usually, for Universities an automatic selection is made based on outstanding academic achievement, so students do not have to submit a separate application. Occasionally, factors other than academics are considered (e.g., athletics or extra curricular activities, Financial Need). In such cases, a supplementary form will be required.
