1 AP Physics 1D Kinematics Lab

2 Objective To practice generating and analyzing position vs. time, velocity vs. time, and acceleration vs. time graphs based on your own movement at the RHS track. Conducting an activity outside is also highly desired.

3 Procedure At the 100 m sprint section of the track, locate 10 m division lines. With a partner, find the time it takes for you to walk that 10 m. [Try for constant speed in that section.] Record data. Then, walk or jog the 2 nd 10 m section a little faster. Repeat for final eight 10 m. Repeat for other partner / team member.

4 Conclusions / Analysis Graph data: start with position ( simply add up your distances and assume it is displacement ) vs. time From that plot, create velocity vs. time and acceleration vs. time plots 1 paragraph ( or more ) describing how you used the distance vs. time plot to create the velocity plot; do the same for acceleration ( using the velocity plot ). Use arrows and numbers to indicate features on the graphs. – For example, how does velocity increase from the first segment to the second? You would want to write in your paragraph the two different slope values but also point those out with numbered arrows; give those numbers in the paragraph. – Do this type of labeling for half of the segments on each graph
