Bacteria Bacteria is the plural word for bacterium. Bacteria are microorganisms. There are 3 types of bacteria: spherical, rod shaped, and spiral. Spiral bacteria are known a spirillia, which coils are usually very tight. Spherical bacteria are known as cocci, which is round like a ball. The rod shaped bacteria are known as bacilli, these are also curved and called vibrio.

Viruses The Latin term virus means poison or toxin. It consists of RNA and DNA surrounded by lipids and proteins. They cannot reproduce without a host cell. The virus will inject a material into the host cell to take over all it's functions. The cell will eventually reproduce, but reproduces the virus not its original reproductions.

Differences Between Viruses and Bacteria Bacteria do not have to use a host cell to reproduce. A virus is not a cell. Bacteria can be cured with antibiotics, while virus have to be cured with vaccines.

What is Harmful About Bacteria Bacteria can be harmful and can kill you, but they are able to be fought off easier than viruses. All bacteria can be killed though, and taken care of.

What is Harmful About Viruses Viruses are very harmful and can even kill you. They are more sneaky and more sly than a bacterium. They can hide and when your body tries to fight it the virus is no longer found. There are some incurable viruses though, like HIV's and aids

Cures for Bacteria The cure for bacterium are antibiotics They kill and prevent further bacterial infections.

Cures for Viruses The only cure for viruses are vaccines. Vaccines are basically a watered down version of the actual virus.

Questions What are the 3 types of bacteria? What is a virus that can't be cured? What can't antibiotics prevent? Is a a virus living?
