Learn to take on different roles in a group activity Look at the power of a charity single Write your own lyrics for a class rap/song

3 We are going to learn how to work more efficiently in a group, by using three important group roles.
Group Facilitator Group Reporter Group Recorder Your job is to lead the discussion. You are not in charge, but you do decide whose turn it is to speak. You must make sure that everyone has their chance to share their ideas. You will be responsible for sharing the group’s ideas with the rest of the class. Make sure you keep to the point and only include the important information. You are responsible for writing down the key points which are discussed in your group. Make sure that you make a note of the important things your group says . Choose a Group Facilitator, Reporter and Recorder.

Magical musical moments play a big part in the BBC Children in Need appeal night A song is recorded by famous celebrities to raise money for BBC Children in Need love Music has a powerful effect on people memories messages happiness

7 Music impacts us emotionally - it changes the way we feel.
A charity single is a way of raising money and awareness; to be able to support those in need. Group Task 2 Do you know any charity singles? Make a list of their names or any of the people that sang them

9 BBC Children in Need is a UK charity which gives money to projects to help children in the UK. Last year the official BBC Children in Need single got to number 1 in the charts!

10 Why do you think Gareth Malone wanted his choir made up of celebrities AND children from projects across the UK? Video clip 2014’s Charity Song: Avicii Stats for song: The song was streamed and downloaded a total of 120,000 times to secure the top slot.

11 Write down any important lyrics that you hear whilst watching the music video.

13 In your groups you are going to write a rap/song for the Celebration of Champions
A rap is a song without music Raps are spoken but songs are sung More than one person might perform the rap/song together Your rap/ song can deliver a message Your rap/song might tell a story Parents have lost their jobs and can’t pay for enough food Some lines can be short, some can be long ‘Couplets’ are two lines at a time e.g. The sun shone bright - Clearing the thoughts of the dark night Most raps rhyme in ‘couplets’

15 Your rap/song can be about any of the fundraising themes, being Champions or raising money for BBC Children in Need Bake Challenge Entertain Dress-up Cake/bake Bun/fun Stall/all Sweet/treat Fun/run Fame/game Race/ace Trick/quick Dance/chance Hop/pop Long/song Tune/balloon Hero/zero Funny/money Hat/splat Dress/mess Think of some rhyming words for the ends of your lines Don’t forget emotive language too Help - Care - Love - Trust - Look after Happy - Unhappy - Sad - Upset - Lonely Bear care

16 Writing a short rap for the Assembly of Champions
Group Task 4 You have 20 minutes to come up with a few lines of a rap/song with your group, using a theme from BBC Children in Need Be ready to present to the class

17 Lots of rappers use this popular rhythm for their lyrics
The last words of your first two lines should rhyme. da DUM da da DUM da da DUM da DUM Leave this slide on the interactive whiteboard to support the children in planning their rap. Then the last words of your other two lines should rhyme.

Here’s an example. Try chanting it to the rhythm. Can you spot the rhyming pairs? We’re gonna fundraise with Pudsey Bear To raise lots of money and show that we care There’s gonna be a bake sale and a raffle too So put your hands in your pockets you know what to do! As a whole class chant this example rap together to ensure they get the rhythm.

22 Taking your rap/song further
As well as performing your rap/song at the Assembly of Champions: Will you record it? Will you upload it to the school website? Will you have a backing track? Are you going to have dance moves? Could you put it on a DVD and sell it to parents to raise more money?
