2. Words to know
Biomass – amount of biological material that comes from living things
Food chain – shows the flow of energy from one organism to the next
Food web – overlapping food chains

3. Know these words!
Decomposers – organisms that get energy from breaking down dead organisms 10% rule – the amount of energy that is passed on from one trophic level to the next Compost bin – a place which allows decomposition to take place Brown and Green – two colors in compost – brown(carbon), green(nitrogen)

4. Consumers – heterotrophs –eat!
Primary consumer – eats plants/ are herbivores Secondary consumer – eats animals that eat plants/ are carnivores Tertiary consumer – eats animals that eat animals that eat plants - are carnivores

5. Producers
Produce or make their own food Include the plants/ phytoplankton/ some bacteria that photosynthesizes Also called “AUTOTROPHS”

6. Types of consumers
Herbivores – eat plants only Carnivores – eat animals/meat only Omnivores – eat both plants and animals
