1 A STUDY OF the artworks of Leonardo da Vinci & Michelangelo & Raphael By Adib, Callum & Emma

2 Renaissance - Was a cultural movement that spanned roughly the 14th to the 17th century, beginning in Italy in the Late Middle Ages and later spreading to the rest of Europe. Produced paintings using vivid, unrealistic and contrasting colours for emotional effect. Traditionally, this intellectual transformation has resulted in the Renaissance being viewed as a bridge between the Middle Ages and the Modern era.

3 Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519) His full name was Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. He most famous painting was the Mona Lisa

5 Mona Lisa The painting is a half-length portrait and depicts a seated woman, Lisa del Giocondo. Her facial expression has been frequently described as enigmatic. The ambiguity of the subject's expression, the monumentality of the composition, and the subtle modeling of forms and atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed to the continuing fascination and study of the work. The image is widely recognised, caricatured, and sought out by visitors to the Louvre, and it is considered the most famous painting in the world.

6 The Last Supper The Last Supper is a 15th century mural painting in Milan created by Leonardo da Vinci for his patron Duke Ludovico Sforza and his duchess Beatrice d'Este. It represents the scene of The Last Supper from the final days of Jesus as it is told in the Gospel of John 13:21, when Jesus announces that one of his Twelve Apostles would betray him.

9 “The Creation of Adam”, (1511) It illustrates the Biblical story from the Book of Genesis in which God the Father breathes life into Adam, the first man. Adam's finger and God's finger are not touching. It gives the impression that God, the giver of life, is reaching out to Adam and Adam is receiving..

10 The Crucifixion of St. Peter (1546-1550) It is housed in the Cappella Paolina, Vatican Palace, in the Vatican City, Rome. It is the last fresco that Michelangelo painted. Michelangelo concentrated the attention on the depiction of pain and suffering. The faces of the people present are contracted in a horrified grim, and several of the observers seem going to die.

11 Raphael (1483 -1520) His full name is Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino Was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance, celebrated for the perfection and grace of his paintings and drawings. Together with Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, he forms the traditional trinity of great masters of that period.

13 The Mond Crucifixion”, (1502) An early work influenced by Perugino It was originally an altarpiece in the church of San Domenico in Città di Castello, near Raphael's hometown of Urbino. The painting shows Jesus on the cross, who is looking peaceful even though he is dying. There are two angels catching his blood in chalices. On Jesus' left kneels Mary Magdalene, with John the Evangelist standing behind her. On his right Mary (mother of Jesus) stands, and St. Jerome, to whom the altar was dedicated, is kneeling. At the foot of the cross is the inscription "Raphael of Urbino painted this” in silver letters.

14 The Marriage of the Virgin (1504) The Marriage of the Virgin, also known as Lo Sposalizio, is an oil painting. Completed in 1504 for a Franciscan church in Città di Castello, the painting depicts a marriage ceremony between Mary and Joseph. It changed hands several times before settling in 1806 at the Pinacoteca di Brera.
