3. My adventure starts in this guy’s mouth!

4. His teeth help by breaking me down into smaller pieces.

5. It is really important for him to chew a lot
It is really important for him to chew a lot. The longer I stay in his mouth the better my journey will be.

6. Mr. Smiley’s mouth makes a lot of spit. Biologists call spit “saliva”.

7. Saliva has chemicals in it that break down the tiny particles in the crust.

8. After the mouth I head on down the tube called the esophagus
After the mouth I head on down the tube called the esophagus. Muscles squeeze me downward.

9. At the bottom of the esophagus I fall into his stomach.

10. His stomach contains a lot of other chemicals and a really strong acid

11. When the stomach is finished working on me, it’s time I move on to the small intestine.

12. The small intestine is where all the rest of my cheese, meats and bread are digested.

13. The small intestine gets help from the pancreas and the gall bladder.

14. The small intestine also pulls all the good stuff, the nutrients, out into the blood so it can be used by his body.

15. When all the good stuff is pulled out of me, the left over, waste, moves to the large intestine.

16. The large intestine removes water, makes vitamins and then pushes the waste out of the body.

17. The last part of the large intestine holds the waste until it is time to push it out of the body.
