SAFETY IN THE LABORATORY 1-Don`t eat, smoke or drink inside the laboratory. 2-Don`t put any thing in your mouth such as pens, fingers…. 3-Don`t take your personal belongings that don`t you need… 4-Wash your hands frequently after or before by soap and water… water… 5-Waer lab coat, gloves, musk and goggles… 6-Avoid un necessary talking and walking in the lab…. 7-clean the bench after the work by disinfectant….

SAFETY RULES OF EQUIPMENT 1- if the equipment not work properly stop using it. 2- Don`t open the centrifuge until the rotator has stopped. 3-Don`t open the autoclave until the contents have cool to about 45 C. 4- equipment being installed and positioned correctly. 5- equipment being cleaned, inspected by the manufacturer.

SAFTY RULES IN CHEMICALS 1-Read in the instruction on the bottle before transporting or using any chemicals or reagent. 2-Wear gloves and goggles when handling dangerous liquid or chemicals. 3-When diluting acid always add acid slowly to water 4-Keep chemicals and reagent out of direct sunlight and do not allow them to overheat. 5-Never mouth-pipette, taste, or inhale a chemical or reagent. 6-Always wash the hands immediately after handling chemicals.

SAFETY OF BIOHAZARD 1-In the lab some time specimens is not identified because the diagnosis has not yet been, such as hepatitis B, meaning a silent carrier state. 2-Use safety cabinet when is necessary. 3-Wear lab coat and gloves before handling any specimen. 4-Use a color coded bags or containers for waste. 5- All specimen containers must be sterilized by autoclave at 121 C for 15 minutes.

Plan work. The majority of lab fires have resulted from mental or procedural errors or carelessness. Minimize materials. Have present in the immediate work area and use only the minimum quantities necessary to work in progress. Not only does this minimize fire risk, it reduces costs and waste. Observe proper housekeeping. Keep work areas uncluttered, and clean frequently. Put unneeded materials back in storage promptly. Keep aisles, doors, and access to emergency equipment unobstructed at all times. Fire safety in the lab

Store solvents properly. Observe restrictions on equipment (i.e. keeping solvents only in an explosion-proof refrigerator). Keep barriers in place (shields, hood doors, lab doors) Wear proper clothing and personal protective equipment. Avoid working alone. In case of a fire: Notify your teaching assistant. If the fire cannot be contained, sound the alarm. Exit using the procedure below (when the fire alarm sounds).

Hazardous materials should never be disposed of down the drain or in regular trash receptacles. They should be put into proper and compatible containers that can be securely sealed. Compatible container materials ensure that wastes will not react with or corrode them. The containers should not be completely full; a “head space” allows for waste expansion. The sealed containers should be labeled with the name and hazard class of the waste along with the words ‘Hazardous Waste’ and the date it was generated. Disposal hazard material

Waste containers should be stored in a secure manner and protected from extreme environments. They should be segregated and stored in compatible hazard classes (flammable, corrosive, oxidizers, etc.) to prevent hazardous reactions if the wastes combine. The containers should remain closed during storage, except when adding or removing waste.
