2  The color of the Chief  Signifies vigilance, Perseverance, Justice, and Freedom.  George Washington speculated that the stars on the blue were taken from the sky

3  Signifies Purity and Innocence  George Washington Speculated that the white strips represented secession from the home country

4  The color signifies hardiness and valor.  Red represents blood, courage, and war  George Washington speculated that the red was inspired by the British colors.

5 More History About the Colors The American Flag is symbolic in many ways. The alternating red and whites stripes represent the 13 British colonies that settled in America. There are 7 red strips and 6 white strips for a total of 13 strips. Various historians have their thoughts on what the colors of the American Flag stand for. Some would argue that the colors on the American Flag represent philosophical values.

6 About the Stars……… There are 50 stars on the Flag. Each of these stars represents each of the 50 states that make up the United States of America. Each star is 5 pointed At the time a 5 pointed star was unheard of, the usual star was 6,7,or 8 points never 5
