G042 – Lecture 4 Task G Briefing Notes Mr C Johnston ICT Teacher www.computechedu.co.uk

Session Objectives Understand the requirements of task g.

Task G Overview Write a report which describes how the availability of electronic information impacts on individuals and society, In other words ….. Write about situations where you, your family and people you don’t know can benefit from the availability of electronic information. The more examples to support the better – its individual work so come up with your examples and don’t just copy, SSPAG is assessed throughout this report – therefore its your responsibility to ensure: Its spell checked, proof read and makes sense, Has sensible headings

For Band 1 (0-3 marks) You write a report which comments on how the availability of electronic information affects: YOU.. examples may include being able to find information for project work or find out about further education courses on-line, OTHER FAMILIY MEMBERS…. examples may include use of on-line banking or the ability to find out about and access local or national government services, Examples may not be fully explained and although its clear you have attempted to correct SSPAG errors, significant errors will still remain.

For Band 2 (4-5 marks) You write a report which comments on how the availability of electronic information affects: YOU... examples may include being able to find information for project work or find out about further education courses on-line, OTHER FAMILIY MEMBERS… examples may include use of on-line banking or the ability to find out about and access local or national government services, SOCIETY AS A WHOLE… examples should include those from other countries / areas of the world and situations outside your normal experience in the UK, Examples will be have the impacts fully explained, SSPAG will have been considered and no obvious errors remain.

For Band 3 (6-7 marks) You write a report which comments on: How the availability of electronic information affects: YOU... examples may include being able to find information for project work or find out about further education courses on-line, OTHER FAMILIY MEMBERS… examples may include use of on-line banking or the ability to find out about and access local or national government services, SOCIETY AS A WHOLE… examples should include those from other countries / areas of the world and situations outside your normal experience in the UK, How organisations communicate electronically with individuals and society: Include personalised examples. The affect on those who don’t have (don’t want) access to ICT: You need to explain fully the impact of the increased use of electronic communication on this group of society. Examples will be have the impacts fully explained, SSPAG will have clearly been considered and barely any errors remaining

Think About… situations where you and your family access and use electronic information Starting Point Write a few examples down to share with the rest of the class

Situations Brainstormed 2015 University Courses Online banking Social media News Weather eCommerce Recruitment and how to join a career Job finder NHS for diagnosing illness Deep web (MB2) Gaming (cheats) Transportation Email…. Education (research hwk) Government websites VIOP Travel websites Review (TripAdvisor) School opening hours Learning (vis, tutorials) Stock Marketing Sports website (gambling) iRC

Example Band 1 Situation “When looking for a mobile phone on the internet I can read reviews from other customers who already own the phones and find out which one suits my needs the best. People I know may not have a wide range of phones so getting review without the internet maybe difficult. Online, there are also detailed descriptions of the features of each phone and some sites even have comparison charts and even videos to help me decide which is the best one. The reviews online are better than going to a shop as sales people can be biased and could try to sell me phones they want rid of rather than one I want. Once I have found a phone online, price comparison websites can then be used to help me save money and get the best deal, as they take prices from a range of stores and present the information in a form which is easy to compare deals. If I did not have access to this electronic information I would have to go around lots of shops – also not all of the shops online are in my local area. By using a price comparison website I have access to far more information than is available to me in my towns shopping area. I have also seen videos showing me how the phone works so I wouldn’t have to read the instruction manual - videos are also easier to learn from in my opinion and often show short cuts which users find out and extra hints and tips that are not in the manual”. INFORMATION – WHY – IMPACTS – HOW ELSE COULD DO

Today’s Task Commence writing your report for task g… Start off with simple examples from your own experiences, expand them and develop them into the rest of the requirements… Any sources need referencing and DO NOT copy from webpage's or the text book.

Homework Finish your 8-10 paragraphs off which cover situations where you / your family have used or accessed electronic information. Remember each paragraph should clearly explain What information is been accessed and why How is it helpful accessing it electronically and why Are there any problems in accessing it electronically How could we access this information manually and what are the benefits and problems doing it this way

Plenary Group Task Changes places in the room… Read someone else's work and place some comments on it. ADDDEVELOPCHANGECHALLENGE
