Building Control System (Metasys) Project Status David J. Ritchie CDO/Operations March 18, 2003

Building Control System (Metasys) Building Control System: Metasys. –Provided by FESS Operations. –Monitors and controls most buildings on site. –Separate, inaccessible network (security). –Easy to learn and use. –relatively easy to get updated. –Good set of capabilities.

Goals Improve the serving of the Computing Division’s operational needs.

Tasks – 1 Make Metasys (for CD buildings at least) stay up even during a power outage –Main server is in Site 38 –Elements between FCC and Server not on UPS

Tasks – 2 Provide Remote Access –R/W for Building Manager –RO for CDO / Operations Present access is only through a PC in Building Manager’s office on FCC-1

Tasks – 3 Make it easier to trend data and to display the trend information in commonly used tools, such as Excel Make it easier to correlate data coming from MetaSys with that coming from other sources (Remedy, Aperture, etc.)

Issues We may need significant FESS Operations resources in order to provide a facility even when utility power is unavailable. We are very likely to need guidance from our own Computing Security people in order to set up the needed RO and RW access.
