1 Let’s talk about READING in P1

2 How do children learn to read? This typography is not designed to recreate what it would be like to read to read if you were dyslexic it is designed to simulate the feeling of reading with dyslexia by slowing the reading time of the viewer down to a speed of which someone who has dyslexia would read'

3 First a child needs to understand that men read as much as women we read to find out information or for pleasure we come to school to learn to read we read from left to right in English these squiggles are separate words these squiggles represent sounds

4 First we teach sounds …. satpin mdnock in sat nip pat tantinpit So we can put them together to make wee words.

5 We say the sounds like this…

6 We practise in our reading books.

7 Find the words that start with p

8 We teach the characters in the reading books

9 We teach tricky words.

10 What can you do? Read anything with your child – comics, texts, on the internet, adverts on buses…… Dads read, mums read, big brothers and sisters read, read to the dog, granny, grandad, goldfish The reading homework with your child (It really makes a difference.) Read at bedtimes to help good sleep
