Ms. Patton’s Career Choices Ms. Patton 8 th grade Reading Careers in the Community Project

Career Choices Accountant  Self-employed Judge  Local Chef  Head chef/Executive Chef

Accountant Taylor Wade She is a member of my church Mrs. Wade gave me great advise about becoming an Accountant She helped me understand that Accountants are not only important to the community, but also to the nation. They help to keep people aware of their financial situation.

Accountants cont’d Some accountants are self-employed like Mrs. Wade, but others work for firms. They work a minimum of 40 hours a week, she usually works 50-60 hours a week. Must have at least a bachelor’s degree, but Mrs. Wade recommends that a person get at least a master’s degree. Must have a good knowledge of computers and try to get summer or part time jobs in accounting related fields.

Chef Monte James Lives in my neighborhood Mr. James taught me that cooking is not work, it is art. If cooking is not your passion then it should not be my career choice.

Chefs cont’d Many chefs begin their training in high school Becoming a chef requires many years of training-many go and some go to the specialty or culinary schools to 2 to 4 year colleges and major in hospitality or culinary arts

Judge Quinton George A friend of the family Mr. George showed me that it takes several years of hard work to have the prestige of serving on a bench.

Judge cont’d Must have a bachelor’s degree and experience as minimum requirements – it is also useful to have a law degree A person wanting to have this career must be able to be fair to all people and remember the laws and rules that we must all follow. He works more than 50 hours a week year round. He told me he makes over 50,000 dollars a year.

What I Learned The careers I want to have require a college education Must be passionate and dedicated to whatever I choose in order to be successful It is important to talk to people about their careers to get better information.
