What is particulate? Let’s read a short article (attached to your lab sheet.)
4
Preview questions… Lab Preview Questions: Where does particulate matter exist? Give 3 examples of particulate matter. How do you know particulate matter is in the air?
5
Our Lab… We have to do the lab in our classroom because of testing. Let’s set some expectations….
6
Background If you have ever seen a dust particle or something else floating in the air wondered where it comes from? How about when you leave your computer in a clean room and come back to find it covered in dust? All of these examples are a result of particulate matter. Different conditions affect how much particulate matter you would find in a given area. What do you think some of these factors are? (ANSWER: wind, humidity, temperature) The following lab exercise allows you to collect particulate matter in places that you think it might exist in high quantities.
7
Part One Decide where your group wants to set their petri dish. Make your agar. Record important observations about the area you are studying. (For example, is it near a vent? A window? High traffic area?
