High School Redesign Recommendations Increase Graduation Requirements Implement LA Core for Freshman Class of 2008-09 Strengthen the Career-Technical Endorsement Replace the GEE with End of Course Tests (EOC) for the Freshman Class of 2009-10 Modify the Graduation Index to better align high school accountability with the goals of high school redesign Support Drop Out Prevention and Recovery

End of Course (EOC) Tests: Recommendations Beginning with the freshman Class of 2009-2010, replace the GEE with End of Course Tests To graduate, a student would have to have a “verified credit” in English and Math and either Science or Social Studies The state will offer at least 2 EOC tests in each of the core subject areas The EOC test will count as part of the student’s grade, with BESE establishing a minimum percent The Accountability Commission needs to recommend how to integrate EOC tests into high school accountability Funding Request: Test Development and Administration O n-line tutorial for students Professional development for teachers Technology funds for high schools

Assessment Types Formative Assessment Formative assessment is a process by teachers and students during instruction that provides feedback to adjust ongoing teaching and learning to improve students’ achievement of intended learning outcomes. Interim (Benchmark) Assessment Periodic assessments May be used in a formative or summative manner Summative Assessment Accountability testing (like LEAP/GEE) End-point evaluation
7
Rationale for EAGLE program Local requests for state assessment reports at the sub-strand level Challenges in meeting the request with accountability tests Development of EAGLE concept system that provides detailed information about student learning on-demand environment Classroom formative assessment for learning
8
EAGLE – Vision System that provides teachers with access to appropriate items System can be used at any time System provides evidence about student achievement to make instructional decisions System that teachers can assess student learning continuously System that helps students to evaluate their learning
9
USDE Peer Review NCLB establishes Standards and Assessment criteria Each state must be approved in order to receive certain federal funding About 20 states are approved, to date Louisiana is “Approval Expected” Pending issues: LAA 1, Migrant
10
LAA 1 Assessment has not been revised Achievement levels established, based on student growth Substantial Growth Moderate Growth Minimal Growth No Measurable Growth SPS and subgroup will be based on growth Needs USDE approval
11
Migrant Data for migrant students must be collected and reported COE on file for Migrant Student COE is the official paperwork that makes the student "migrant." Before testing begins, the principal should code this section on hand-coded answer documents. For the precoded students, the data will be pulled from the state data base. This field should be coded only for students who have an approved certificate of eligibility (COE) on file, not for students who may be migrant but do not have a COE on file.
