3 The 100 Days New Deal policies focused on: relief for the needy, economic recovery & financial reform. March 9 – June 16, 1933 15 major New Deal laws passed Expanded the fed. gov. role in the economy.

4 Step #1: The Banks Bank inspections by the Fed. Gov.
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Federal insurance for bank accounts up to $5,000 Fed. Securities Act: All information on stocks available to the public. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC): eliminated stock abuses that might lead to another crash. 1933: 21st Amendment repealed

5 Step #2: The People Fireside Chats
Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) ** Raised crop prices by lowering production Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Repaired and built dams, created jobs, flood control and power to the region. Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Young men improving the environment

6 Help to People New Deal aimed at helping people:
Jobs (Civil Works Administration – CWA) $ to states to est. jobs (National Industrial Recovery Act – NIRA) ** Fair practices among industries (National Recovery Administration – NRA) Food, clothing, shelter (Federal Emergency Relief Administration – FERA)

7 New Deal’s Critics FDR & Deficit Spending:
FDR spend more $ than the gov. was receiving in revenue American Liberty League: opposed New Deal measures Sen. Huey Long: Share-Our-Wealth program Something for everyone

8 The Second 100 Days FDR called for more extreme relief for farmers & workers. Works Progress Administration (WPA) Create as many jobs as possible. 8 million jobs in 8 years. FDR reelected in ’36 1st time A.A. voted for a democrat 1st time labor unions backed a candidate Social Security was implemented.

9 New Deal’s Affects on Groups
Women and African American were named to high government positions. Native Americans were given full citizenship. FDR was not totally dedicated to civil rights Needed support of white democrats.
