 Pangea was a huge super continent more than 200 million years ago that combined all the continents we have today into one huge continent.  The theory of Pangea and continental drift was originated by Alfred Wegener in 1915.  The idea of Pangea was not accepted by scientists until the 1960’s.  Alfred Wegener not only was a geologist, he studied weather as well and this helped him produce his theory. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subj ects/astronomy/planets/earth/Continent s.shtml http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/history/wegener.html

 A convergent boundary is when 2 plates meet and one plate slides under the other which sometimes creates volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and crustal deformation which creates land and mudslides.  One example of a convergent boundary is the Washington-Oregon coastline. http://geology.com/nsta/convergent- plate-boundaries.shtml

 A Divergent Boundary is when 2 plates meet and push upward to form a ridge.  Some effects of divergent boundaries are; mild earthquake activity, mountains, and volcanic fissure eruptions.  One example of a divergent boundary is the Mid-Atlantic ridge. http://geology.com/nsta/convergent- plate-boundaries.shtml

 Transform Boundaries are where 2 plates slide against each other which creates transform faults.  These faults create earthquakes repetitively.  A famous example of a transform fault is the San Andreas fault which is between the Pacific, and N.A. plates http://geology.com/nsta/transform-plate- boundaries.shtml

 We live on the North American plate with the Eurasian plate to the East, the Pacific plate to the West, and the South American plate to the South.  Ohio does not usually have disasters relating to the tectonic plates, however the West coast is always in danger because of the San Andreas fault.

 In the very distant future Ohio may be in some danger because the South American plate will have moved up and a fault will be right to the South of Southern Ohio.
