4 The Adult Education Charge: “To serve more students who have a greater diversity getting significantly better results with declining cost per student.” The Adult Education Goal: “To insure individuals have a portable credential of market value and a career with family sustaining wages.”  According to Dr. Robert Templin, President - Northern Virginia Community College

5 The TCSG Adult Education Mission Statement: “To enable every adult learner in Georgia to acquire the necessary basic skills — reading, writing, computation, speaking, and listening — to compete successfully in today's workplace, strengthen family foundations, and exercise full citizenship.” The TCSG Adult Education Overarching Goal: Creating a Workforce for Georgia and a Future for Families

6 Adult Education Over 1.2 million adults over age 18 in Georgia have less than a High School education. This is 18% of Georgia’s adult population. There are now 28 counties where 30% or more of the adult population does not have a High School education. 1.No County in Georgia has > 30% of its Adult Population w/o a High School Credential 2.All TCSG Adult Ed. Programs have Standard Career Pathways w/Stackable Credentials 3.TCSG has a recognized Adult Education Teacher Credentialing Process 4.TCSG GED Sites award 23,500 GED credentials (a 15% year-over-year increase) Vision 2016: Creating a Future for Families and a Workforce for Georgia Adults Without a High School or GED ® Diploma

8 The Change and the Challenge In addition to maintaining/exceeding FY13 Federal Goals: 1.Accelerating Opportunity Implementation 2.Inclusion of a College & Career Readiness Curriculum for ALL students 3.GED® Closeout for 2002 Series 4.Teacher Prep for the Introduction of the 2014 GED® 5.Add: Preparation to meet new state measures for funding: enrollment, completions, graduations! 8 - 5

9 TCSG Adult Education “Players”… 77,432 students served (0.9 percent of GA’s total adult population) out of 1.2 million adults 18 and over in Georgia who do not have a high school diploma or GED® credential (18 percent of GA’s adult population). 68% of our students are between the ages of 19-44… career and college age citizens. 37 32 Service Delivery Areas (SDA) managed by Program Administrators  24 TCSG colleges; 4 School Districts; 4 CBOs; 1 USG college 594 instruction sites serving Georgia’s 159 counties… at no cost to the student!! Instructional Staff:  1,432 Instructors - 172 full-time (12%) and 1,260 part-time (88%)  1,696 CLCP volunteers with 40,535 hours of donated service  333 CLCP tutors providing 24,323 hours of volunteer tutoring  337 local program volunteers System Office Staff Support:  Adult Education – 15 employees  GED Staff -14 (8 full-time, 6 part-time) with 7 essay readers Total Funding= $35.5m ($18.8m Federal/$13.1m State/$1.2m Local Programs/$2.4m CLCP) 9
