PROJECT ABSTRACT The proposed project is a virtual interactive tabletop game surface It will recognize user input in the form of multi-touch gestures as well as identify and track unique game pieces The use of IR for visual input allows for minimal interference between visual input and display Recognize user input using ReacTIVision open-source framework Uses image processing to recognize position and orientation of unique symbols

BLOCK DIAGRAM

PSSC 1.An ability to control fan speed as a function of operating temperature. (MC) 2.An ability to recognize touchscreen inputs via infrared image processing. (MOBO) 3.An ability to recognize and track unique game piece position and orientation via fiducial pattern tracking. (MOBO) 4.An ability to control projector settings such as brightness, contrast, and focus via IR communication. (MC) 5.An ability to generate sound effects coordinated with the game being played. (MC)

THEORY OF OPERATION Generic External Flash Drive – 16GB  Interfaced with MOBO by USB  Hold game data and Linux installation SD Card - Class 10 with FAT32 file system  Storage of sound files for current game  Interfaces with MC via SPI @ 16MHz – 3.3V Audio Processing Unit  MP3 decoder for speakers – VLSI MP3 Codec IC – 3.3V  Supports up to 320Kbs audio with 12MHz clock

THEORY OF OPERATION Microcontroller – Atmel ATxmega128A4U  Clock speed @ 32MHz - 3.3V  Controls MP3 Decoder with I2C  Controls fans via 2 PWM channels  Receives directions from MOBO via UART (RS-232) - 9600 baud rate  Off-chip Peripherals  Fans, IR transmitter/lamp, temperature sensor connected to MC by header on PCB  IR transmitter controls projector settings  Temperature read @ 12bit ADC channel

THEORY OF OPERATION Motherboard – with 4GB RAM and Intel 2.4GHz processor  Runs Linux off USB Flash Drive  Receives video input from IR camera via USB  Outputs video to the projector using VGA  Powered by separate micro-ATX power supply  Camera  640x480 resolution @ 60fps on 850nm IR band
