2. –Code R.E.D. stands for Refrigerated Enforcement Detail

3.  This project has been a joint initiative between The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and The Pennsylvania State Police for over 3 years

4.  Both agencies knew there were food trucks that were hauling food TC (those that need to have their temperatures controlled) without refrigeration :  -Trucks without refrigeration/freezer (refer) units units -Trucks without functioning refrigeration/freezer units -Trucks without functioning refrigeration/freezer units -Trucks where the operator shut off the -Trucks where the operator shut off the refrigeration/freezer refrigeration/freezer

5. The initiative began with the discussion ensuing between the administrations of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania State Police.

6.  The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture was asked to attend the annual training of the Pennsylvania State Police /Motor Vehicle Division

7. –Information was provided to the PSP Motor Vehicle division staff about proper holding temperatures for TC foods and our regulations concerning food holding.

8.  The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture also provided stem thermometers to all of the PSP motor vehicle staff

9.  The PSP can write citations using PDAs regulations.

10.  There have been several join Code R.E.D. days held throughout the state where PDA and PSP staff work together at weight stations.

11.  The PSP has the trucks pulled over and the PDA staff check the temperatures of refrigerated foods, cleanliness and cross contamination

12.  This has also had a positive effect that the staff of the PSP and PDA know each other and the PSP often calls the PDA staff when there are issues with refrigerated trucks.
