MYP Biology Warm-up HWK: Cornell Notes on Sec 14.4, pg 414-418 due Wed. Warm-up: Draw the graph; write the Q and best answer with explanation. Which point on the graph best represents the carrying capacity of the population? (Use your notes to help.)

MYP Biology Warm-up HWK: Cornell Notes on Sec 14.4, pgs 414-418 due Wed. Warm-up: Write Q, best answer and explanation on your sheet. Which change might cause a rapid rise followed by a rapid decline in reindeer populations shown here? a. An increase in predators b. A forest fire c. A decrease in predators d. A stable (unchanging) environment

MYP Biology Ask Ms. Twanow to return work! Set out Notes on 14.4. Warm-up: Draw the chart below on your sheet. Read the article Fuzzy Noses Bad for Bats and fill in the chart. PopulationLimiting FactorEffect on Population Bats G. destructans Fungus Insects Food plants

MYP Biology Warm-up Warm-up: Create a possible quiz question related to carrying capacity, limiting factors, or population growth. Use your notes to help. Make sure you identify the correct answer. Quiz a friend and see if they answer correctly!

Ecosystem Vocabulary Add to your notes: Limiting Factor - an environmental factor that controls the growth or distribution of a population. Density-dependent factors - limiting factors that affect denser populations more than less crowded ones. Density-independent factors - limiting factors that affect populations regardless of density.

Limiting Factors Card Sort Work with your partner to sort the cards into density-dependent and density- independent factors. Be sure you can support your decisions. After class discussion, record the factors in a T-chart in your notebook: Density-dependent Factors Density-independent Factors

Science Friday! Warm-up: Record questions on your sheet. Answer after watching the video. Turn in your warm-ups after the video. 1. How does the venus fly trap catch and digest its prey? 2. How does the pitcher plant attract, catch and digest its prey?
