LEGISLATIVE BRANCH Headed by Congress The House of Representatives and the Senate Main task = to make the laws

3 Legislative branch Powers include: Passing laws
Originating spending bills (House) Impeaching officials (Senate) Approving treaties (Senate)

4 Headed by the Supreme Court
Judicial branch Headed by the Supreme Court Main task = interpret laws

5 Judicial branch Powers include: Interpreting the Constitution
Reviewing laws Deciding cases involving states' rights.

6 EXECUTIVE BRANCH Headed by the president.
Carries out federal laws and recommends new ones, directs national defense and foreign policy, and performs ceremonial duties. 

7 EXECUTIVE BRANCH Powers include: Directing government
Commanding the Armed Forces Dealing with international powers Acting as chief law enforcement officer Vetoing laws
