4 Subject Specific Terminology – SST’s Image – A Representation of the external form of a person or thing in sculpture, painting. Imagery – The formation of mental images, figures, or likenesses of things, or of such images collectively Metaphor – A figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance. Symbol – Usually reminds us of something else that is invisible but connected with it. Icon – A religious image painted on a flat surface. The icon reminds people of the person whose image is painted on it, and it is a help to their devotion and prayer.
