11-1 Areas of Parallelograms & Triangles Ms. Andrejko
2
Vocabulary Base of parallelogram- can be any side of the parallelogram Height of parallelogram- the perpendicular distance between any two parallel bases Base of a triangle- can be any side of the triangle Height of a triangle- the length of an altitude drawn to a given base
3
Postulates P 11.1- The area of a region is the sum of the areas of its non overlapping parts P 11.2- If two figures are congruent, then they have the same area

Examples The height of a parallelogram is 10 feet more than its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 1200 square feet, find its base and height. The base of a triangle is one half of its height. If the area of the triangle is 196 square millimeters, find its base and height.

Practice The height of a parallelogram is 5 feet more than its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 204 square feet, find its base and height. The height of a parallelogram is three times its base. If the area of the parallelogram is 972 square inches, find its base and height.
