Nationalism is the idea of supporting one's country and culture. Supporting a national identity when it does not exist as a sovereign nation, for example, Basque nationalism, Kurdish. nationalism
Many princes feared that if the German states were unified they would lose power and influence over their own territories. The middle-class had become important to German society. Across all 39 states, this middle- class wanted more rights and freedoms as German subjects to reflect their contribution to German states success.. By 1859, groups of doctors, lawyers, teachers and businessmen formed the Nationalverein.. Throughout the 1840s many German states were under pressure from nationalist and liberal demonstrators wanting greater political representation and reform.
After widespread revolts, a Parliament was called to discuss reforms and attempt to draft a constitution for a unified Germany. The constitution was completed in March 1849. This would unite the German states as a German Empire headed by a German Emperor. Government would be provided by an elected parliament that represented the populations of all 39 states. The idea of nationalism in Germany originally started with the protestant reformation. The idea of nationalism was thought of by a German philosopher named Johann Gottfried Herder. What of us lies in the hearts of others is our truest and deepest self. Peace can be reached through meditation on the knowledge which dreams give. Peace can also be reached through concentration upon that which is dearest to the heart.
