Culminating event of the MYP Completion requirement for: International Baccalaureate Organization Wrocław International School Student demonstrates knowledge and understanding of: Content Skills Areas of Interaction Passion for a topic

3 What is the Personal Project?
The Four Parts of the Personal Project: The Product The Process Journal The Paper The Presentation

4 What is the Product? Two Types of Products:
Something the student does Job Shadowing Hosting a camp Something the student makes Designing and sewing a line of clothing Writing a novel or short story Video documentary Requirement: Minimum of 15 hours spent on the product

5 What is the Process Journal ?
A written diary of the process Sketchbook Included in the Journal Design Process Brainstorming Research Reference to all parts of the project Reflections Summaries of meetings with Supervisor, Coordinator, Librarian, and Teachers

6 What is the Paper? To demonstrate: Minimum requirements:
Research and writing skills Data analysis and interpretation skills Written and verbal presentation skills Minimum requirements: MLA format 8 to 10 pages Research-based 5 sources 10 internal citations One graphic, chart, or diagram

7 What is the Presentation?
Student presents to: Peers gathered in an assembly program Panel Time limit of : 30 minutes Introduction: 5 minutes Summary of Project: 10 minutes Product: 5 minutes Question and Answer session: 5 minutes Debriefing session: 5 minutes

8 What are the Kinds of Personal Projects?
Original work in areas of: Visual Arts Performing Arts Plastic Arts Original written piece Original scientific experiment Invention or original design of an object or system Research and development of a business, event, or community organization

14 What are the Student’s Obligations?
Meet regularly with the supervisor, advisor, librarian, and coordinator Keep the process journal updated Meet all deadlines Complete and hand in the product and project report Attend the symposium, present, and display the product

15 What are the Personal Project Supervisor’s Obligations?
Attend the Personal Project Supervisor Orientation Ensure that students have read and understood the Personal Project Guide Guide the student to complete the project successfully Emphasize the importance of the Process Journal Carry out formative assessments Assess the project according to the criteria Ensure that the project is authentic and adequately referenced Attend the symposium presentations

16 Recommendations for a Personal Project Supervisor
A person inside of the school community Availability to attend the workshop for supervisors in September of 2012 Availability to meet bi-weekly with the student Difficulties finding a supervisor? Contact the Personal Project Coordinator ASAP!
