1 When sharing, do not use names of Swigert students. We want everyone in the class to have a chance to participate. Be respectful of one another. Some personal discussions may be referred to your counselor for further attention. Discussion Norms January 9, 2013 Treat others with Respect Keep it Confidential No put downs. No name calling. 2 Jeff Yalden  What are two things that stand out to you from what Mr. Yalden talked about?  How can you relate to what you just heard?  What is the one big “take-away” from his speech?  What is Mr. Yalden’s challenge to me?

3 Being A Man  What does it mean to be a man in the following situations?  Your role here at school.  How you treat friends and classmates.  Your response to adults.  The way you treat women.  Your role in your family.  Community.

4 Being A Man  You play an important part in the community here at Swigert.  Pledge to do your part as a man at Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy to lead by example, make the people around you better, and spread acts of kindness to others. Leave this place better than it was before and take these values wherever you go in this life.

5 3 – Our Commitment  Each day set out to do 3 kind acts.  Challenge each other each day about your 3 acts of kindness.  Make the people around you better.

6 Kind Pledge Write a pledge or action step you are going to take to lead by example as a man here at Swigert.

7 Kind Card This is your chance to write something encouraging to another student here at Swigert.

8 Kind Apology Have you ever wanted to apologize to someone for something you did or said? Here is your chance.

9 When you are ready to show the video clip, advance to the next slide. Make sure your speakers are turned ALL THE WAY up so students can hear the audio. Click the play button at the bottom left hand side of the screen to start.

11 Pursuit Of Happiness  What stood out to you from the video clip?  Have you ever got the message, spoken or unspoken, that you weren’t good enough?  What is one thing you would like to do someday?

12 Hand out Goal Sheets  Complete as many questions as you possibly can on this sheet.  It is not meant for you to answer all the questions. Choose several that you would like think about and write your answers.  If time permits, your teacher will allow you to discuss answers with your group.
