2 The Bible is made up of 2 parts:
The Old Testament The New Testament

3 Is also sometimes called:
The Old Testament Is made up of 4 Sections: Pentateuch Historical Wisdom Prophetic Contains profound teachings, beautiful prayers, and some of the greatest literature ever written. Is also sometimes called: The Hebrew Scriptures Contains 46 books

4 The New Testament Contains 27 books
FULFILLS the Old Testament. A Messiah is said to come, and in the NT, we meet Jesus. Will be studied in more depth your sophomore year in Christian Scriptures. Is also sometimes called: The Christian Scriptures Contains 27 books

5 “OLD” does not mean OLD! The Old Testament prepares for the New and the New Testament fulfills the Old. We cannot understand The New Testament without understanding The Old Testament!

14 There are 4 Sections of the Old Testament:
The Pentateuch The Historical Books The Wisdom Books The Prophetic Books

15 The Pentateuch Jews call it “The Torah” It contains stories of: creation, the patriarchs, Israel's slavery and escape, God’s covenant, and entry into the Promised Land.

16 The Books of the Pentateuch:
Genesis Exodus Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy

17 The Historical Books: Tell of Israel's conquest of Canaan, the reign of kings, and prophetic warnings.

18 The Historical Books: Joshua Judges Ruth 1 Samuel 2 Samuel 1 Kings
1 Chronicles 2 Chronicles Ezra Nehemiah Tobit Judith Esther 1 Maccabees 2 Maccabees

19 Explores good vs. evil, and provides prayers, songs and advice.
